Imagine Chaplains Everywhere
Expanding the Role of Chaplains
Skilled chaplains have long been valued team members in hospitals, prisons, the military, and private schools. In contexts where human resources are often in short supply, chaplains are uniquely qualified to address complex spiritual, religious, emotional, ethical and existential needs that can often produce spiritual distress.
CFLC aims to expand the role of chaplaincy beyond traditional institutions by training and then placing chaplains in contexts such as food banks, community service centers, county jails, parish ministries, or similar settings where a chaplain’s supportive presence would be a benefit. CFLC wants to bring the transformative work of chaplaincy to the “ordinary” spaces where life takes shape.
Given the broad scope of training and the diverse contexts where chaplains can take up their work, good discernment is essential to our program in order to help lay chaplains determine where they might best employ their gifts for ministry.
