PRISM Restorative Justice and The Center for Lay Chaplaincy (CFLC) build spiritual vitality in seemingly hopeless contexts in and around Los Angeles. Over the last year, we have developed some innovative approaches for providing compassionate spiritual support in places where it's most needed and least accessible. Come help us celebrate the merger of our ministries and explore first-hand the new strategies we are developing for spiritual care in spaces like county jails, food banks, community service centers, and public spaces.
Spiritual experiences, and the religious beliefs and practices that flow therefrom, inform and in turn are informed by one’s physical realities and cultural context. In an increasingly secularized society, providing well-trained chaplains, who can support meaning-making however it takes shape, is an essential task of wisdom traditions in general and the Episcopal Church in particular.
To answer the growing need for adept and responsive chaplains, and to include under-represented voices in wider church leadership, CFLC has adapted chaplain training, known as Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), to make it widely accessible. Through this work we aspire to activate the vocations of chaplains who previously had no access to this life-transforming work.
